Have you taken notice of the fact that there is an increasing number of women ATV riders today as compared to many years back? I remember a time when ATV riding and dirt biking was a men’s thing – at best, a boy’s thing. In the modern world today, this is no longer true. Coupled with the fact that ATVs are getting increasingly popular because of availability of reliable and affordable ATVs for kids in the market, I think this sport will become really big in the future.
Not only is there a big jump in the number of women in support of the sport, there are more young girls too. But with this said, I feel the need to mention that some parents oppose their kids’ interest in quad riding. Safety is one thing but some parents cite that they are worried that their kids will become tomboyish in the process, on account of the fact that there are more men and boys in the game than girls and women. I don’t think gender comes into play in terms of quad riding….as long as the child rides an ATV suitable for her age and capability and supervised by a responsible adult, it should be perfectly fine. Becoming a tomboy is an issue of personality, not choice of sport! In fact, it is a proven fact that when a child takes up a sport that has more males and females, the child tend to have a wider range of emotions and is able to interact better with the opposite sex in the future.

The Brushy Mountain Motor Sports Park can be found in Alexander County, North Carolina. This park is friendly to ATV riders, Motorcycle riders, and UTV riders and has been in business for several years. Most of the trails are marked one way which keeps riders from playing chicken head-on which is very nice. Motorcycle riders who are looking for tight trails are sure to feel at home here because they have many trails designated just for them.
This park was chosen for it rave reviews online, and because we needed an honest to goodness proving ground for the new Linhai-Yamaha 400 4×4 ATV. We quickly unloaded and went over to the sign in station to pay the fee and sign the liability waivers that I like to call the “Not our fault if you get hurt or die” papers. The attendants quickly came over to check out our brand new Linhai Big Horn ATV, and to make sure we had all the proper safety equipment like helmets, riding boots, and gloves.

My daughter is a conventional teenager with keen interest in sports. Academically, I am never too worried for her – she does well. Recently, she has been mixing around with lots of friends who owns and rides ATVs actively. These youths are not irresponsible, as far I can tell but I know that it won’t be long before she starts asking for a youth ATV herself. Not knowing anything about ATVs, I started looking around for information on how to keep youths and kids safe on ATVs. I’ve read countless reports and news about youth and kids’ deaths related to ATV riding…naturally, as a parent, I was deeply concerned. Images of her spinning around on an ATV or crashing goes through my head whenever I think of her asking for an ATV of her own. I went online into ATV forums and message boards and have consulted with some other parents with youths who are into ATV riding and they have given me many tips on how to handle my daughter who is in her prime youth years.
The thing is that I know it would be unfair and unreasonable for me to say ‘no’ to her. She will probably ride her friends’ ATVs without my knowledge anyway, that way, so, the best approach, for me, was to concede. Many parents told me that this was what they had to do. What they told me was that I should contact the ATV Safety Institute for more information on how to teach my daughter how to ride an ATV safely. And I signed my daughter up for one of ATV Safety Institute’s safety courses. It’s only a half-a-day lesson and it’s very comprehensive, though. A qualified ATV instructor taught my daughter how to ride the ATV proper, the basic safety rules and the kind of youth safety equipment and apparel she has to wear before she swings a leg over an ATV. I guess it was fun and informational for my daughter during the ATV safety course because she attended the course with four of her cliques. A good thing too, I would say.
